Local Torquay can collector Janice Lilley has received a national award, the prestigious Green Can Award, for her tireless efforts to recycle Aluminium Drinks Cans. As a long standing and valued customer of Glanvile Metals Scrap Yard in Torquay, Director Martin Glanvile said “we applaud Janice’s dedication to recover thousands of discarded aluminium cans, raising much needed money for charity”.

Presenting the award, Ruth Meeke, Programme Manager for Alupro, said “Every Can Counts is an environmental initiative open to everyone, the recycling scheme has benefitted many good causes, not least Janice’s community spirit to raise sums for Rowcroft Hospice and tidying up her local area.

The Recycled Aluminium Cans are baled and are transported for reprocessing where they are shredded into small pieces, melted in a furnace and moulded into Aluminium ingots.
